Taiwanese women have a higher socioeconomic standing than other women in the China, HK area and rank fifth in the Asia-Pacific region in terms of opportunities in education, employment and leadership, according to the latest MasterCard Worldwide Index of Women’s Advancement.

Japanese thank Taiwanese for disaster aid

A group of Japanese organizers on March 9th held an event in New Taipei City’s Tamsui District (淡水) called “Thank you, Taiwan,” to mark the third year since a major earthquake and tsunami struck northeastern Japan on March 11, 2011.


The organizers said that people are still suffering, but that the victims will not forget how the Taiwanese lent a hand in a time of crisis.

Hailstorm hammers Miaoli


People in Miaoli County had a chance to see an extreme hailstorm on Thursday evening. The hailstorm, which was accompanied by lightning, thunder and sudden heavy rain, lasted less than one minute at 6:12pm. The size of the hailstones that fell ranged from 0.5cm to 1.5cm, according to surveillance images taken at a local police station.
