National Tsing Hua University professor of materials science Yeh Jien-wei (葉均蔚), who pioneered research into high-entropy alloys, was given special coverage in the academic journal Nature for his contribution creating the next generation of alloys.

Taiwan leads Asia in breast cancer control: EIU report

Taiwan ranks first in breast cancer control among nine territories and nations in Asia, the Health Promotion Administration (HPA) said, a report by the the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) said.


The agency said this year’s breast cancer report published by the EIU in March assessed breast cancer control efforts in Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia and Thailand as compared with Australia.

Taiwan seen as magnet for FDI leaving China: BBVA


Taiwan could become a magnet for foreign direct investment (FDI) planning to leave China as a result of rising labor costs, according to research by Spanish financial group Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA).


As manufacturing labor costs continue to rise, companies are moving out of China, especially those in the manufacturing and re-processing sectors, the Spanish bank said in a research note dated May 7.

Taipei is home to the 15th-highest number of super-rich people in the world, according to a report released by UK-based property market advisory firm Knight Frank.Knight Frank compiled data on so-called ultra-high net worth individuals (UHNWIs) which focused on the number of people with more than US$30 million in net assets in a city.

Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport won a total of 11 awards from UK-based consultancy firm Skytrax this year, including world’s best airport staff service and best airport staff in Asia.Taiwan took second place in airport immigration, up from the third place last year.

Taiwan, MediaTek named among Top 100 Global Innovators


Taiwan's state-funded Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI, 工業技術研究院) and mobile chip designer MediaTek Inc. (聯發科) were named Thursday among the Top 100 Global Innovators by major mass media and information firm Thomson Reuters.


Asia is home to the lion's share of the top 100 innovators for the first time this year, with 46 companies on the list hailing from the region. Of these, 39 are based in Japan, four are in South Korea, two are from Taiwan and one is from China.
