Dr. Jenq-Jye Hwang Takes Office as New President of CCUT

The 1st of September witnessed a historic hand-over at Chung Chou when the University welcomed its 4th President, Dr. Jenq-Jye Hwang, into office.  President Hwang, an internationally renowned expert in education, takes the leadership of CCUT at a crucial time, as CCUT prepares for upgrading to a university in 2011.  The inauguration was held at the Conference Hall, Library II.  Distinguished guests, Director General of the Department of Technological and Vocational Education, MOE, Mr. Teng-Jiao Lin, Secretariat of Changhua County Government, Mr. Cheng-Koo Lai, Director of National Education Council, Mr. Yao-Tung Lin, and President of National Tainan University, Dr. Hsiu-Shuang Huang, and CCUT faculties attended the inauguration.  

President Hwang received his Ph. D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, U.S.A. in 1981. President Hwang has abundant administrative experiences on education,  Before coming to Chung Chou, he served as President of National Tainan University from 2004 to 2007, Director General of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MOE) R.O.C. from 2000 to 2001, and Director General of the Department of Technological and Vocational Education, MOE from 1997 to 2000.   President Hwang has a reputation of being an excellent scholar and teacher. President Hwang has actively involved in academics and educational associations. From 1986 to 1987, he was a full time visiting scholar at Harvard University.  He has been an editor of Journal of Textbook Research, Journal of Research in Education and Science, and Journal of Education Development and Research.   In addition, he served as Director respectively in Association of Teacher Education, Association of Education, and Association of Comparative Education.

President Hwang received numerous outstanding awards in Taiwan, including 2000 and 2006 Research Award of Association for curriculum and Instruction, 1996 Excellent Research Award of National Science Council and Academic Award of Ministry of Education, Taiwan and1989 Research Award of Chinese Education Society.  President Hwang As to his teaching career, he has been a chair professor at Providence University, Ming Tao University, National Taiwan Normal University and etc.

In the inauguration, President Hwang expressed his gratitude to former President, Dr. Tso-Kwei Peng and Vice President (Acting President) , Dr. Chin-Ying Tseng, and the school faculties and students for their efforts on school transformation in the past.  President Hwang promised to lead Chung Chou to reach the goal of transforming CCUT to technological university which offers high quality teaching, research and industrial-academic cooperation and strengthens our students’ professional competence and humanities accomplishment.
